Checking out the action on the American League side of the MLB aisle today, a couple key series match-ups jump out immediately for opening wagers. First, spot an excellent showdown in Game 2 of the series between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays, as Ivan Nova (9-2, 4.03) goes for win number 10 on the season against Tampa’s James Shields (7-5, 4.04 ERA). After a 4-3 win for the Rays last night, and with good pitching up today, this should be a tightly contested ballgame with the odds-on favorite being the Yankees at -119 odds straight up. The over/under at 8 runs is also tempting, considering the caliber of pitching set up, so figure you’ll have a couple of decent picks available on this top billing tonight. Another AL game worthy of betting interest lies with the match-up between the Los Angeles Angels and the Cleveland Indians, as Dan Haren battles Zach McAllister. Haren has been simply awful as of late for Los Angeles, giving up at least 5 runs in his last three outings, but the red-hot Angels have still managed to emerge victorious in 2 out of 3 of those poor outings (plus is 3-1 with a 7.94 ERA in his last 4 starts). However, Haren has been brilliant at Progressive Field in Cleveland, and this could be another game to back the Angels’ outstanding bats to prevail on the road. Make sure to peruse the other offerings in the AL today, with a great opening match-up between the Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox sure to draw interest (Roy Oswalt vs. Chris Sale), a very low scoring affair likely between the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles as Felix Hernandez takes on Wei-Yin Chen, and a chance for Oakland to win 3 straight if Bartolo Colon can help get them past the visiting Boston Red Sox and Jon Lester tonight.
Onto action slated for the Nation League this evening, expect a quality match-up in New York as the Mets get set for an exciting series with the Philadelphia Phillies, with the series leading off with a great showdown between Jonathon Niese (6-3, 3.55 ERA) of the Mets and Vance Worley (4-4, 2.92 ERA). Philadelphia will look to pull out of a 5-game losing streak tonight, and Vance Worley is certainly one pitcher who will give them chances to win, but without the Philly bats coming alive (they’ve scored just 10 runs in their last 4 games combined), there’s little hope they’ll get past the Mets at home this evening. Also check out an exciting showdown in D.C. as the Washington Nationals bring on the San Francisco Giants, with Jordan Zimmerman (4-6, 2.77 ERA) looking to get some offensive help of his own against Tim Lincecum (3-8, 5.60 ERA), who finally found a groove in his last start against Los Angeles (7 shutout innings, 3-0 win), and will look to build on that effort tonight. It’ll be tough backing either of these pitchers, as Lincecum is inconsistent and Zimmerman gets no run support, so a good alternative may lie in seeking out the under wager at 7.5 runs. Make sure to also look out for other trends in the NL to consider, including the Chicago Cubs looking for a 5th straight win tonight at Atlanta, spot a great pitching duel in LA as the Dodgers and Chris Capuano take on Cincinnati and Johnny Cueto, and look for a low-scoring affair in Milwaukee as the Brewers host the Miami Marlins with Marco Estrada battling Miami’s Annibal Sanchez. With great MLB opportunities for betting on sports all around today at TopBet, there’s no better time to jump into this week’s betting lines than right now!
