Could it be that college football is just around the corner? Well, it might still be another two and a half months before the first official kickoff, but that does not matter to odds makers as they have opened the lines for wagering.
A number of odds makers are calling the Oregon Ducks the nation’s best team. Yes, that is right, Bovada and topbet are calling the Ducks, and not Florida State the defending national champions, the top team in the country.
One odds maker even said that if the Ducks and Seminoles were to meet now for the national championship he would have Oregon favored by at least three points and possibly more. That is how confident he is in the talent at Oregon.
Thus far on sites like betonline and sportsbook.com there have been games that have been given point spreads.
This early start of releasing 200 games became a tradition eight years ago in Las Vegas in order to get a jumpstart on the upcoming season. The idea was to give the NCAA season a summer buildup leading up to the late August kickoff.
The lines in most places have limits of just $1,000 on bets. There can be five games bet on per bettor before having to start over again so other can place their bets.
This year the 200 games released for this annual event contained eight of Oregon’s games. In those eight, the Ducks are the favorite in each one, including a great matchup early in the season against Michigan State in Week 2.
The Ducks opened as a home favorite by 13 points over a tough Spartans team, who defeated Stanford, the Ducks Pac-12 rival, in the Rose Bowl this past season.
Florida State starts its defense of the national championship in Week 1 in Dallas against the Oklahoma State Cowboys as a favorite by 17 points.
The Seminoles also are listed as home favorites by 24 points for a matchup on October 18 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
