On Wednesday, the Champions League quarterfinals will continue with a battle of heavyweights in France when Barcelona visits Paris Saint-Germain.
This is the second time during this season that Barcelona will be playing in Paris during the Champions League. Back near the end of September on match day two, PSG defeated the Catalans at Parc des Princes 3-2.
Laurent Blanc’s charges will be looking to defeat Barcelona today in their quarterfinal tie prior to next week’s second leg in Barcelona at Camp Nou.
Of course, if Barcelona could repeat that same scoring line it would not be all that bad given how important scoring away goals is. However, the Catalans must try to take a win away in this match, as PSG will be playing without some of its top players who are out suspended or injured.
The Ligue 1 champions will not have Marco Verratti as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic as both are suspended. David Luiz is injured and Thiago Motta is doubtful. Those players make up the spine of the PSG side, although Lucas Moura returning from an injury will give the team width.
Some online sportsbooks have PSG as much as a +375 underdogs playing on their home pitch on Wednesday.
Meanwhile the Catalans, despite a wobble in domestic play this past weekend against Sevilla, which saw them squander a lead of 2-0 during the second half to only come away with a draw, is -130 to win today, while a draw is available at +260.
Watching the way Barcelona has played of late, there are still a few doubts. Real Madrid played better than they did during the Clasico, but could not take complete advantage. Celta Vigo controlled the match between the two just over a week ago. Barcelona played brilliantly for the first 30 minutes last Saturday but could not beat Sevilla. At home, they looked somewhat sluggish against Almeria even though they ended up winning 4-0.
PSG has injuries but they also have been exceptional at home during the Champions League. The Saints are unbeaten on their home pitch since 2014 in Champions League with 10 wins and 4 draws.
Zlatan’s absence will be felt, but he did not play in September when PSG defeated Barcelona here. If the Saints can find a high level of intensity, then they will give Barcelona problems.
A price of +110 for PSG and a half goal should be tempting for many bettors. Even with players out injured PSG will have Edinson Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas Moura, Javier Pastor and other who are all world class players on the pitch.
I like PSG surprising everyone and defeating Barcelona.
