Bengals in Odd Situation as Favorites against Pittsburgh

Tonight the Cincinnati Bengals host AFC North rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers in a matchup of two teams that are 0-1 to start the season.

The Bengals are laying a touchdown in the game on most sportsbooks playing at home. It is the first time in the Mike Tomlin era as the Pittsburgh head coach that the Steelers will be an under against the Bengals.

Pittsburgh opened their season with a 16-9 loss to Tennessee and lost their starting center Maurkice Pouncey in the process to a knee injury that will sideline him the reason of the season.

Cincinnati was ahead of the Chicago Bears by 11 points in the third quarter and still found a way to lose 24-21 in a game dominated by the defense.

The current line at Bovada has the Bengals as a 7-point favorite with the point total for the over under sitting on 40.5.

Most online sportsbooks such as topbet, betonline and sportsbook.com opened the line on this game with the Bengals as the favorite by 6.5 points and the total at 40.5.

Cincinnati during early money moved the line to 7 but Pittsburgh has pulled at that number but it remains at 7. The total has jumped to 41 from its opening of 40.5 but seems to have settled back at 40.5 for good.

Pittsburgh losing in week one was a big surprise to most. Pittsburgh looked vulnerable on its offensive line and that was made worse by Pouncey getting injured.

Defensively, the Steelers are sound as they allowed just one play over 15 yards the entire game. The defense also shut down the running game for the Titans. The problem is, as good as the defense was the offense was as equally bad if not worse.

The Steelers managed only 32 yards on the ground and poor Ben Roethlisberger the Steelers’ quarterback was sacked five times. Lack of depth on the team at the skills positions on offense was very evident in game one.

Cincinnati has been favored twice against Pittsburgh since Marvin Lewis became the Bengals head coach 11 seasons ago. In both games, Pittsburgh won outright.

Cincinnati has solid talent this season, with Andy Dalton at quarterback and one of the best wide receivers in football in A.J. Green. However, Dalton threw two interceptions in game one against Chicago and the Bengals defense could not hold an 11-point third quarter lead. The three turnovers hurt the Bengals and will do the same tonight if they do not take care of the pigskin.

Pittsburgh is 11-1 SU in their past 12 games played at Cincinnati.

Pick: Take Pittsburgh and the 7 points
