CFL Football for Friday Night: Edmonton at Winnipeg in a …

The CFL Football season has been growing in notoriety over the past few years, and as such we’ve taken notice and jumped into the exciting action in the Great White North with weekly wagers on the top games during each week in order to try and cash in on another opportunity presented at the top sports betting sites reviewed right here. For Friday, a pair of games get underway this evening, with a featured clash between the undefeated Edmonton Eskimos, off to their best start since 1991, and the East division-leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who will host the game this evening at Canad Inn Stadium. While the Eskimos have been riding high into Week 6, they’ll have to shake off some tough history when visiting Manitoba tonight, as Winnipeg has won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two when Edmonton comes to town.

Defense seems to be the name of the game heading into tonight’s battle, as the Eskimos and Blue Bombers have given up only 99 and 97 points during the season thus far, and will both be intent on producing another solid defensive stand with bragging rights for best team in the league on hand. Winnipeg has the Defensive Player of the week leading their charge into the game, as defensive back Jonathan Hefney set the tone for outstanding play with a 9 tackle performance against the B.C. Lions last week. Combined with Defensive Player of the month Odell Willis, who leads the league with 7 sacks through just 5 games, the first-ranked defense will no doubt be amped up to try and stop the first-ranked offense from coming into their house and pushing them around. That Edmonton offense is led by quarterback Ricky Ray, the Offensive Player of the Month for July, who combined with wide receiver Fred Stamps is a serious threat to challenge Winnipeg’s defensive corps all evening long. Ray has thrown for 1,492 yards in 5 games with 10 TDs and only 1 interception, and his main target, New Orleans native Fred Stamps, has benefitted to the tune of a league-leading 578 receiving yards and 5 TDs. No doubt this passing/catching threat will be the focus of the 1st ranked Winnipeg defense, and the outcome of the game could very well be decided on whether Winnipeg can keep these two in check or not.

Betting lines for this match-up find Sportsbetting.com as one of the few remaining online sportsbooks to feature a moneyline for the game, with the Edmonton Eskimos a slight favorite at -115 to win, with the host Winnipeg Blue Bombers getting -105. It’s looking like a close match-up indeed as all the top sportsbooks including Bodog and Sportsbook.com as well as Sportsbetting.com all find a -1 on the points spread for Edmonton at -105, with the same odds for +1 on Winnipeg. Though Winnipeg has a great home field record working in their favor against Edmonton, this is a marquee year for the Eskimos, and as such I’m betting on them to nab a rare win at Canad Inn Stadium tonight, covering the -1 points given as Ricky Ray captains his team to victory and a 6-0 record on the year as we hit the one-third mark in the 18 game season. With the CFL growing by leaps and bounds this season and into the future, it’s a great time to join into the fun tonight with a wager on this game between two of the league’s best, and find why this football league is not simply an alternative, but a great addition to the NFL Football season that we’ve grown so accustomed to sportsbook betting on.
