he Dayton Flyers meet the Boise State Broncos in a First Four matchup that will be played in Dayton’s UD Arena. It is the first time in 28 years that an NCAA Tournament game is being played on the home court of one of the teams.
The winner will move on to play Providence the No. 5 seed on Friday in the second round.
Boise State is 25-8 straight up and 19-11 against the spread. The over/under on the season is 11-10.
The Broncos are known more for football than basketball, but the team has played well this season. The Broncos ended the season a run of 15-2 SU but lost in the Mountain West semifinals to Wyoming.
The Broncos were 14-3 ATS over their last 17 games of the season. On the road, Boise State is 10-4 ATS and 7-2 ATS when the underdogs, which they are in this matchup by four points.
Dayton on the season is 25-7 SU and 16-14 ATS. The over/under on the season was 14-11-1. While the Flyers must play a First Four game, at least they are at home where they have won 17 straight games during the season and 21 overall going back to last year. Dayton is 8-3 ATS over its past 11 home games. The Flyers reached the Elite Eight last year after defeating Stanford, Syracuse and Ohio State, but were defeated by Florida. Both teams are likely to play a half court games which will make the pace slow and the UNDER total of 127 should be safe.
The current line is -4 for Dayton, but if it were to go to -4.5, then it might be worth looking at Boise State as they are tough on the road and have defeated 3 teams that had long home court winning streaks including a 29-game streak by San Diego State.
Dayton will be wearing its all red road uniforms as technically the team is away as the selection committee rated the Boise State Broncos higher than Dayton, who was given the last at large entry into this year’s tournament.
