As the NBA Finals takes a 2-day hiatus with the series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat shifting to South Florida for Game 3, the bulk of the action for online sports betting today and tomorrow will rest squarely with Major League Baseball. Thankfully, the continued series set for Interleague play provides an exciting and unique setting for this weekend’s games, and for Friday we’re all about heading down to one of the top online sports betting sites reviewed at CR for a dose of some great bets amongst the 15 games scheduled around the league today. For the top action in MLB Interleague play on Friday, we start on the East Coast with a very intriguing match-up between the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals, two of the hottest teams in baseball at the present time. Both teams come into this series having won 6 straight games, so tonight, with Phil Hughes of the Yankees facing Gio Gonzalez of the Nats, something just has to give. With the Nationals at home though, where they have the best record in baseball, and with Gonzalez pitching so solidly, the smart money may lie with Washington, who are -130 favorites to win. Moving along to the next big East Coast showdown set for today and the weekend to come, we’re spying the second hottest team from the AL East, the Baltimore Orioles, who put their 5-game winning streak on the line against the Atlanta Braves. The Braves have simply had some of the worst run of form we’ve seen in years, now on their 3rd losing streak of 4 games or more, and have to find a way to pick themselves up tonight behind Tommy Hanson (7-4, 3.55 ERA), who has been a bright spot in the rotation despite not getting all that much support. The Braves could be at an advantage against the O’s Brian Matusz (5-6, 4.82 ERA), who has an ERA north of 5.00 on the road, and even worse pitching at night, so watch out for a Braves’ chance at ending this current losing skid at home this evening.
Looking around the league to other worthwhile match-ups in Interleague play on Friday, check out the continuation of the Citrus Series between the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays, in which the Rays have won 8 straight games to-date. The Marlins’ recent run of form doesn’t bode well for them heading into today’s series opener, with Miami dropping 8 out of their last 9 games over a miserable home stretch, but at least starter Carlos Zambrano has pitched well on the road this season, winning 3 of his last four outings away from Marlins’ Park, and compiling an ERA under 1.00. Up against Matt Moore tonight, who has been off and on in form this season, this might be the best match-up of the weekend for Miami to get back on track and get their bats working once again, arguably the reason for their poor run of form lately. Zambrano and Miami at a +120 underdog at Tropicana Field today, so this could be an interesting wager backing a slumping team that stands a decent chance at recovery in Game 1 of their series with Tampa Bay.
Other worthwhile series to check out the betting lines on today include the start of the Chicago White Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 3-game showdown, which begins with an epic pitching duel between Chicago’s Chris Sale (8-2, 2.05 ERA) and LA’s Clayton Kershaw (5-3, 2.65 ERA), with the reigning NL Cy Young winner Kershaw looking due for a big performance at home. Spot another interesting series that lies outside of Interleague play, with the New York Mets heading to the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, OH, to take on the NL Central-leading Reds. With both teams on 3-game winning streaks after sweeping their most recent series in Interleague play, expect this to be an exciting 1st game between two teams that have high expectations of being able to make a run for the playoffs this year. Don’t forget to check out a solid pitching match-up in Seattle, as the Mariner’s Jason Vargas duels with the San Francisco Giants Ryan Vogelsong, look for Pittsburgh to have an advantage over Cleveland in Game 1 with ace James McDonald on the mound against the Indians’ Justin Masterson, and we’ll follow the improving form of Vance Worley of the Philadelphia Phillies, who takes on Drew Hutchinson and the Toronto Blue Jays in the Great White North this evening. Make sure to catch all these great baseball games and more for Friday sports betting at Bovada, and until tomorrow, best of luck to you in all your wagers placed today!
