Friday NBA Quick Picks

After a small two-game slate in the Association yesterday, the schedule is chalked full of big NBA games today. There are 12 games on today’s menu and the lines are very tasty, so come enjoy the offerings and take a gander at our scrumptious quick picks!

Brooklyn Nets -1 at Washington Wizards +1

The Wizards seem to be getting some more credit after snapping the Knicks’ five game win streak two nights ago, but we still have to like the Nets here, who are also playing quite well lately as winners of six of their last 10. Take Brooklyn to cover -1.

Los Angeles Lakers -6 at Charlotte Bobcats +6

The Lakers suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Celtics last night and they will be without Pau Gasol and possibly Dwight Howard. Look for the Bobcats to take advantage and cover +6 at home.

Toronto Raptors +7.5 at Indiana Pacers -7.5

As winners of five straight, the Pacers are playing lights out heading into the All-Star break and I wouldn’t expect them to slow down at home, or against the struggling Raptors. However, they are still not a team that wins by a large margin and with Rudy Gay on the squad, the Raptors should be more competitive from here on out this year, so take Toronto to cover +7.5, but lose in a close one.

New Orleans Hornets +4.5 at Atlanta Hawks -4.5

Both teams have struggled a bit as of late, but considering the Hawks 17-8 record on their home floor, they should have no problem covering -4.5 against one of the worst in the East. Take Atlanta here.

San Antonio Spurs -5 at Detroit Pistons +5

Pretty simple stuff here. The Spurs have won 11 games in a row and until they lose, don’t go against them. They are on the road here, but the Pistons are still a losing team at home, so take San Antonio to cover -5  in the win.

Orlando Magic +7 at Cleveland Cavaliers -7

As winners of six of their last 10, there’s no doubt that Cleveland is playing quite well, but it still seems a bit crazy to like a team that is 15-34 on the season by more than seven points against anybody. Take Orlando to cover +7 in the loss.

Los Angeles Clippers +5.5 at Miami Heat -5.5

Faced with a slew of injuries, the Clippers have struggled lately, winning just three of their last seven games, but they expect Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups to be back in action tonight against the best team in the East, so they should be almost back to top form. The Heat should pull this one out, but take the Clippers to cover +5.5 in defeat.

Golden State Warriors +3 at Memphis Grizzlies -3

Both teams in this match-up seem to be in a bit of a funk lately with each dropping their last two games. However, the Grizzlies have gotten the better of Golden State on both occasions when they have met earlier this season and there’s no reason to think they can’t do it again. Take Memphis to cover -3 in the win.

Portland Trail Blazers +7 at Houston Rockets -7

The Rockets have been putting up plenty of points in their last few outings, but the Blazers have had their number in their first two meetings this season. Portland may not make it three in a row against the Rockets, but they should easily cover +7 today.

Phoenix Suns +12.5 at Oklahoma City Thunder -12.5

There’s no doubt that the Thunder should take care of business at home against the Suns, but 12.5 is one of the largest spreads we’ve seen this year and it would be tough for any team to cover. Play it safe here and take Phoenix to cover +12.5.

New York Knicks -6.5 at Minnesota Timberwolves +6.5

The T-Wolves haven’t been able to compete without Kevin Love, so don’t expect them to fare any better against one of the best teams in the NBA today. Take the Knicks to cover -6.5 on the road in the win.

Chicago Bulls +4 at Utah Jazz -4

At home the Bulls would be a significant favorite against Utah, but the Jazz are a completely different team when they play on their home floor (19-5). Take Utah to stay strong at home and cover -4 in the win.
