Although I don’t list it in my official bio, I could probably list ‘eating’ as one of my hobbies. In my opinion there is nothing quite like a nice buffet with a wonderful variety of meats and vegetables and of course dessert. Sorry if I have you salivating but I like my food. In fact I like it a bit too much says the wife.
Tonight’s playoff action is a little beat like the buffet I spoke of above because in the three scheduled games for this evening you’ve got a nice appetizer in Miami and Milwaukee followed by a very tough, but flavorful main course in the Bulls hosting the Nets. The dessert comes in the form the Los Angeles Clippers traveling to Memphis. While you grab yourself a snack, or three-course meal, read along while I break these three games down.
Miami at Milwaukee (Heat lead 2-0) – The Heat are favored by 7.5 heading into tonight which I find interesting since Miami has won both games by double-digits. The question you have to ask yourself in wagering this one is… Can the Bucks keep it close enough at home for you to wager on that number?
Common sense will tell you ‘yes.’ This game for all intent and purposes is the Bucks’s season. A win and they get back into the series while a loss basically terminates their season because there is no way in the wide world of sports they are coming back from a 3-0 deficit. The over/under in this one is 194. In game one this number was eclipsed while in game two it was not. I love the under here because the only way the Bucks stay close in this game is by playing defense. LeBron and company will win, but this one stays within single-digits.
Brooklyn at Chicago (Series tied 1-1) – The big question heading into tonight is the health of Joe Johnson who is dealing with a bad wheel. His absence could significantly hurt the rebounding and inside presence of the Nets. Brooklyn is a 3.5 point underdog against the Bulls who played much better in game two with Joakim Noah playing a much more significant role.
The over/under tonight is 181 which is closer to the final score of game two rather than game one. This suggests Vegas expects a little more defense than they do offense and I would concur. I think you’re OK playing the ‘over’ but it won’t be by much. Whoever wins game three will win the series in my mind because both teams have essentially shown their hands in the first two games. Deron Williams must find ways to be better with Kirk Heinrich guarding him exclusively. I like the Nets to win outright this evening.
LA Clippers at Memphis (Clips lead 2-0) – Despite leading this series two games to none, the Clippers find themselves a 4.5 point underdog tonight in the Volunteer state. In game one, the Clippers used a strong 4th quarter to pull away and then in game two Chris Paul buried runner with under a second left for the win.
The over/under tonight in Memphis is 180 which means you have to believe the odds-makers like a defensive style game which of course would favor the Grizzlies. This is exactly the type of game Memphis played in game two but still lost. Much like the situation Milwaukee faces, the Grizzlies cannot afford to get down 3-0 to the Clips. I like a Memphis win tonight by five or more and I like the ‘under’ if only by a couple. Look for newly named NBA Defensive Player of the Year Marc Gasol to have a big night.
