With the Lakers surging and the Nuggets and Heat still streaking, the NBA regular season’s second half has been a thrilling ride so far and it looks like its going to get even better as we come down the home stretch.
Today’s slate is a modest five-gamer, but the league’s got some great match-ups on tap for bettors and for fans, including a showdown by the top two teams in the Western Conference. Here’s a brief look at each game and the point spreads. It’s our quick picks!
Brooklyn Nets -6 at Philadelphia 76ers +6
The 76ers have been in a serious tailspin lately, losing nine of their last 10 games, including their last five in a row. Their playoff hopes are slipping away, but they’ll have a chance at home to get a game back, that is if they can topple one of the hotter teams in the East at the moment – the Nets.
The Nets have won three straight and they are shooting well from the field in their last few games. It’s tough to go against the trend here, so don’t. Take Brooklyn to cover -6, even on the road.
Oklahoma City Thunder +2 at San Antonio Spurs -2
The top two teams in the West will duke it out for the conference’s best record today in what could be a preview of a playoff series down the line.
This is typically the time of year that the Spurs start slowing down, but they’ve been deadly on their home floor, with a 25-4 record. Meanwhile, the Thunder are coming in on a surge as winners of their last five games. San Antonio is coming off a rare loss.
These teams have split the season series so far, with each team winning on its home floor. Look for the home team to prevail again with the Spurs covering -2.
Detroit Pistons +9.5 at Utah Jazz -9.5
Both teams are riding ugly losing skids, but considering the Jazz has been so dominant at home (22-8), I don’t see them dropping this one to Detroit. However, with the way they are playing lately, it will be hard for them to cover 10 points against any NBA squad, so expect this one to be close and take Detroit to cover +9.5 in defeat.
Denver Nuggets -9 at Phoenix Suns +9
It’s pretty rare for a team to get a nine-point edge on the road, but Denver has certainly earned it as winners of its last eight games. Meanwhile, the Suns have seemed to step up their game as of late, but are still far from one of the West’s best. Look for Denver to keep it rolling and cover -9 today.
New York Knicks +3 at Golden State Warriors -3
It’s been a pretty brutal second half so far for the Warriors and things aren’t going to get any easier as they take on one of the East’s best offerings in the form of the New York Knicks. New York has slipped up a bit too recently, but it defeated Golden State back on Feb. 27 at Madison Square Garden and there’s no reason it can’t do it again today. Take the Knicks to cover +3 and win outright.
