NCAA Hoop Futures: Wichita State moves from 100 to 1 to …

The futures are constantly updated for the NCAA Basketball National Champion. This week the Florida Gators went from 5 to 1 to 9 to 2 to take over the top spot in the futures for Bovada and betonline.

However, one of the two undefeated teams left in the nation, the Wichita State Shockers are now making their presence felt. This week on topbet and sportsbook.com, the Shockers are 12 to 1 to win the title putting them in the top 10.

Wichita State is 27-0 straight up and 17-6-1 against the spread this season. They have not received the same press or attention as the other top teams such as Syracuse and Florida since they are not a perennial powerhouse and play in a small media market.

However, the Shockers reached the Final Four last season and are on an undefeated role this season. On some futures boards, the Shockers opened this season with 100 to 1 odds to win the national title.

However, over the season, the team has seen its odds improve dramatically to its current 12 to 1 stature, putting them in the same price range as Arizona, Louisville and Kentucky.

One criticism is that Wichita State has not played many of the top contenders in the nation this season, but that theory is not held by everyone.

The Shockers have only played one team in the Rating Percentage Index top 25, but then again UCLA, Kentucky and Virginia have not played any. The one thing these teams have in common that Wichita State does not is at least one loss.

Wichita State has a strong defense. The Shockers have limited their opponents to just an average of 60 points per game, which is No. 14 in the nation. Since the start of 2014, the Shockers have held seven opponents to 60 points or less.

On offense, the team scored 75 points a game, but with Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker, the Shockers can also dominate games on the offensive end.

Wichita State moved to No. 3 in the nation in the latest AP poll on Monday. They should be a formidable opponent for any team once March Madness rolls around.

Do not be surprised if the Shockers go deep into the tournament and come out with another trip to the Final Four for the second straight season.
