New Week, Top Sportsbook Bets at Oddsmaker

Settling into another new week, we find once again the action for online sports betting squarely focused on Major League Baseball as new series are set to get underway across the National and American Leagues. After an exciting weekend packed with great competition in a return from the All-Star break, it’s time to settle into the baseball groove and prepare for the second half push towards October, as many teams now face a do-or-die moment to get themselves in position to make the postseason. There’s going to be plenty of lively playoff races happening from the AL West to the NL East, so make sure to stay on top of the competition each and every day by hedging some wagers on a few highlighted games each day down the stretch. For the new week, we’re shoving off with a host of wagers at Oddsmaker sportsbook, one of the best online sportsbooks reviewed at CR.

First up for wagers today across the 12 games in play, the wrap-up contest in a 4-game set between the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins takes place at Marlins Park in Miami, with a good pitching match-up between the Nats’ Edwin Jackson (5-4, 3.73 ERA) and the Marlins’ Carlos Zambrano (4-7, 4.20 ERA). Washington has already taken two out of the three games in this series, and will look to hand the Marlins a 7-game losing streak when Zambrano is on the mound (he’s 0-4 with a 8.00 ERA during his last 7 starts). However, with a 7-2 record and a 2.83 ERA against the Nationals in his last 9 starts, this could be a perfect opportunity for the Marlins to break the streak, and backing them at -106 odds straight up is tantalizing. Tread carefully here though, as Miami is struggling mightily at the plate, making Washington also a good-looking bet behind Jackson at -104 odds.

Moving along to other National League wagers worth chasing, the Cincinnati Reds try to continue their hot streak of 6 consecutive wins as they head into a home series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, who come in off an embarrassing sweep by the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. The Reds have found their way back to the top of the NL Central division after sweeping the Cardinals out of town, and tonight they’ll face a tough challenge from Arizona starter Wade Miley (9-5, 3.04 ERA) who’s having a fantastic year overall but has struggled with two poor starts recently. Bronson Arroyo (4-5, 3.73 ERA) hits the mound for the Reds tonight, and coming off a 3-hit complete game shutout in his last start before the All-Star break, expect him to be confident against a slumping Arizona line-up that has lost 7 of their last 10 games. Cincinnati is at -130 odds to win straight up tonight, with +155 odds to cover the 1.5 runs against the spread as favorites. Wrapping up wagers on the NL today, check the betting lines for the series kicking off between the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers, as well as the Philadelphia Phillies at Los Angeles Dodgers, both of which should provide some intriguing pitching match-ups and good opportunities to capitalize on bets at Oddsmaker sportsbook.

For the American League action, the pair of series we’re most interested in lies with the showdown between the pair of Sox, as the Chicago White Sox battle the Boston Red Sox in a 4-game set at Fenway Park, and the Los Angeles Angels face the Detroit Tigers in the Motor City for a 4-game series of their own. With two powerful line-ups at the plate in the clash of the Sox, this should be an exciting series to follow on through Thursday, and for tonight’s match-up the odds should be pointing you towards Boston to pull out of a recent 3-7 funk in the last 10 games, getting Aaron Cook (2-2, 4.37 ERA) on the mound against rookie Dylan Axelrod (1-2, 6.16 ERA), who is starting to look like, well, a rookie. Cook comes off three very solid outings, and at -126 odds on the money line, we like Boston to take Game 1 at home this evening.

Looking at the LA Angels vs. Detroit Tigers series, this is a crucial set for both squads as LA finds itself 5 games out of first place in the AL West behind Texas, and Detroit sits at just 3.5 games behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central race. A good series for both teams is crucial, and as such getting off to a good start in Game 1 is very much important for both teams. Detroit is a slight favorite at home (-119 odds) behind Rick Porcello (6-5, 4.47 ERA), who faces Ervin Santana (4-9, 5.75 ERA). Santana has been roughed up in his last pair of starts, allowing 13 runs in his last 6 1/3 innings of work over those two outings, and another bad start tonight could very well see him sent out of the Angels’ rotation. However, our bet on this match-up favors the over/under at 10 runs, as we want to see some action at the plate in the first American League meeting between LA’s Albert Pujols and Detroit’s Prince Fielder. Let’s hope some fireworks go off, and a high-scoring game helps push past the total runs line to pick up -105 odds on the over wager.

Wrap up your day of online sportsbook betting on the American League games with a look at a few other series getting underway today, as the New York Yankees host the Toronto Blue Jays, the Cleveland Indians head into Florida to face the Tampa Bay Rays, and a bottom-of-the-barrel match-up pits the Seattle Mariners vs. the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees have to be the strong favorite at home in Game 1 of their series against the Jays, with Phil Hughes (9-7, 4.33 ERA) looking to continue to whittle down his ERA, Tampa and Cleveland both look to bounce back from recent losses to stay in their respective divisional races, and Seattle tries to see if a trip away from home can spurn some production behind Jason Vargas (8-7, 4.07 ERA), who has been brilliant in his last 3 starts.
