Ohio States Tumbles Down Futures Chart Following Miller …

Odd makers do not take long to react. It is the nature of the business and those who wait too long, lose too much money.

This was evidenced by how quickly odds makers at Bovada and topbet, as well as other online sites adjusted the odds for the NCAA football national championship following the announcement that Braxton Miller the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes would miss the season due to a shoulder injury.

Ohio State was ranked No. 5 in the AP preseason poll on Tuesday morning.

By Tuesday after when the news broke that Miller would miss the season, the Buckeyes tumbled down the boards on sportsbooks worldwide.

Prior to Miller’s injury Ohio State on sites such as betonline and sportsbook.com was 12 to 1 to win the national title. However, shortly after the news broke of his injury, the Buckeyes saw their championship odds increased to 50 to 1.

The team announced on Tuesday following an MRI that in fact Miller’s injury would keep him out the entire season.

The four teams with shorter odds that Ohio State prior to Miller’s injury all had their odds shortened even more following the announcement he would miss the season.

The odds for Florida State, Alabama, Oregon as well as Oklahoma, all got shorter.

On other sites online, the Buckeyes dropped to 22 to 1 from 8 to 1.

On August 30, the Buckeyes open their season against Navy. Ohio State was a 17.5-point favorite for that opening game. However, for now, many books have taken the game off the board.

Bookmakers have also suspended the Big 10 Championship game odds and the win-total prop for Ohio State.

It is likely that sometime Wednesday afternoon those numbers and props will be updated and the betting will reopen after that.

Some bettors will obviously be hesitant to bet when it comes to the Buckeyes, but the Ohio State plan is simple. With Miller unable to compete, Urban Meyer, the head coach for the Buckeyes, will have to show the country how good his ability it to recruit top quarterbacks to his school.

No one is sure if Cardale Jones or J.T. Barrett will start under center for Ohio State. The likelihood is it will be Barrett, but only Meyer knows that answer.

Will there be a drop off in talent? Yes, for sure, but you can be assured that the quarterback filling in for Miller will fit Meyer’s system and will be able to make the plays expected of him.
