With the final weekend of Major League Baseball’s Interleague play upon us, now is a great time to hone in on all the best wagering options found at one of the best online sportsbooks reviewed at CR, and start putting together your betting sheets for all the great action taking place in ballparks across the U.S.! For today’s featured sports betting destination, we’re turning to the Bovada Sportsbook, which has competitive betting lines on every single one of the 15 MLB contests in play on Saturday, as well as tons of prop wagers if you’re feeling a little saucy this weekend. With a number of games set to start out this afternoon, let’s jump right into the action and spot some of the best looking match-ups and the best possibilities for success while betting on sports today at Bovada.
First up, we’re checking out the winning streaks across the MLB, to try and find the anchor legs for parlay wagers, or at the least lock in some of the most sure-fire ways to win an opening bet on Saturday. That has us looking square at the Texas Rangers, who are seeking an 8th straight victory in a row, with a game at home against the struggling Colorado Rockies. While Texas is heavily favored tonight with Colby Lewis (6-5, 3.00 ERA) on the mound against winless Josh Outman (0-3, 8.41 ERA), the -145 odds on the Rangers to cover the 1.5 runs against the spread looks like a tasty option to kick off the wagering day. Next up, catch the second game of the always-exciting Subway Series between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets, with a very solid pitching duel featuring the Yankees’ Ivan Nova (9-2, 4.32 ERA) vs. the Mets’ Chris Young (1-1, 3.06 ERA). While the Mets have been on fire as of late, winning 4 straight and 7 of their last 10 games, Ivan Nova’s name should be almost synonymous with a Yankees’ win, as he seeks his 6th straight victory in his last 6 starts. Though Chris Young has pitched solidly himself lately, allowing no more than 2 runs in his 3 starts this year, he’s prone to allowing lots of fly balls, and has trouble with runners on base (fact: 128 out of 136 stolen base attempts have been successful against Young since 2006). So while there is potential for the Mets to find a way to squeeze out one more victory, the odds point to the Yankees here, both on the money line (-153) and in reality, with Ivan Nova on the mound always getting the support he needs to win. Another tempting spread pick here, the Yankees stand at +105 odds to cover 1.5 runs tonight.
Moving along to other worthwhile contests in Interleague play today, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels continue their Freeway Series in Southern California tonight, with Chris Capuano (8-2, 2.71 ERA) of the Dodgers trying to find a way to hold down the offensive firepower of the Angels, and beat out Ervin Santana (4-7, 5.16 ERA). The Dodgers, after losing Game 1 of this series last night 8-5, simply have to find a way to keep the Angels’ bats under control, and find a way to produce more output once again. While 5 runs is more than any the Dodgers have had in the previous 5 games leading into last night’s showdown, without a strong effort on the pitching side of things, the boys in blue don’t stand much of a chance with guys like Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, Mark Trumbo and Torii Hunter all hitting lights out right now. Even though Santana has had struggles, there’s a possibility that he’s reached a turning point in the season, coming off two straight outings of giving up 7 runs per start with a complete game, 1-hit shutout last weekend. Santana mind you, is also 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA against the Dodgers at home, so look out for the Angels to once again be a good wager at -150 odds straight up, or to cover 1.5 runs at +145 odds.
Round out the sports betting day centered around Major Baseball with a few other favorable match-ups across the country, including a solid chance for the Cincinnati Reds to bounce back from a 4-game losing streak as they once again host the Minnesota Twins. Johnny Cueto (8-3, 2.38 ERA) continues to be one of the best pitchers in baseball this year, and if there’s anyone in the Reds’ rotation that can snap their longest losing streak of the year, it’s this guy. Another exciting match-up features two East Coast teams as the Washington Nationals again battle the Baltimore Orioles, as Edwin Jackson (3-4, 3.02 ERA) gets set to duel with Wei-Yin Chen (7-2, 3.36) in what should be a low-scoring ballgame, spot a solid chance for Tampa Bay to recover from a 2-game losing skid as James Shields takes the mound against the Philadelphia Phillies and Kyle Kendrick, and wrap up the day with a look across the betting lines for the showdown between the Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves, as the visiting Braves go for their 4th straight win and a lock of two straight series over AL East opponents. There’s even more great MLB bets on tap tonight, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for any advantages on the betting lines today at Bovada Sportsbook!
