For the National Championship, the two most explosive teams of the year clash in Glendale, Arizona in just a few hours’ time. #1 Auburn comes in out of the powerful SEC, big winners in the bowl season already this year, and has Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton leading the charge for the most balanced team in the league. #2 Oregon will try and display their proficient #1 ground attack powered by LaMichael James and QB Darron Thomas against Nick Fairley and the surprisingly fast Tiger defense, which might be the difference maker tonight. No doubt both teams are incredible scoring threats, but who will win the battle on defense? If Auburn is able to lock down LaMichael James, there’s little doubt the #1 team in the nation wins. However, if Oregon can somehow keep Cam Newton in check tonight, the Ducks will be walking away with the trophy. Will either thing happen? That’s the fun part, we just can’t, and don’t know. Although I’m a Pac-10 guy by heart, I simply can’t go against Cam Newton’s ability to lead his team past any situation, against the best teams in the country. For the last pick of the year on College Football, it’s Auburn 30, Oregon 24 at WagerWeb sportsbook.

With limited picks in the NBA as only 3 games get set for tipoff, it looks like a prime time for parlay wagering, although with some tough options to take on the available contests. In the anchor bet, Boston plays host to Houston, looking to rebound at home against the sliding Rockets. Having lost 5 straight, and without leading scorer Kevin Martin, Boston should get back under control tonight. In the second game, Charlotte hosts a hard-to-judge Memphis team, awful normally on the road, but showing plenty of burst (ala their 20 point road victory at Los Angeles recently) to win on any given night. With likely few fans in attendance due to a rare severe snow in the Southeast, the one thing the Bobcats have going for them is momentum, playing above average at 4-2 since Paul Silas took over for Larry Brown as head coach. Nothing like a rallying team at home, the Bobcats behind D.J. Augustin looks like a good call for game 2. Anchoring the parlay tonight, find Chicago hosting the Detroit Pistons, with a 7 game home winning streak up for grabs should the Bulls win. If there is a bad road team this season, it’s the struggling Pistons who stand little chance against the clicking offense led by Derrick Rose and Carlos Boozer.

Closing out the night with a few picks in NHL Hockey, solid match-ups require a bit of deeper analysis to find the right picks, so hopefully we’ll be able to call on a bit of it to put bets in the win column today. First and foremost, Pittsburgh hosts Boston in a great clash between two of the best in the league, and with the Pens missing star Sidney Crosby, Bruins net minder Tukka Rask must be breathing a little sigh of relief. Having already proven able to come back on the road in the last match-up between these two teams, Boston should have confidence especially as Pittsburgh has played flat since their 12 game winning streak was snapped (losing 4 of their last five). Boston has played well on the road this season, and tonight, gets the first win for us in NHL Hockey. Tougher bets land with St. Louis hosting Pheonix, though with Ilya Bryzgalov out with sickness, we’ll give the nod to St. Louis to pick up the win at home behind Jaroslav Halak in goal. Toronto tries for their 4th straight road win as they look to inch closer to .500 on the season, while Los Angeles tries to find a way out of their current funk. Losing their last 5 of 6 on a home stand doesn’t bode well for the Kings tonight, especially against a confidence Maple Leafs squad behind fill-in goalie Jason Reimer, however the road to recovery has to start somewhere, and the Kings are the next pick for the NHL in online sports book betting at WagerWeb.com. Finishing with Detroit at Colorado, the Red Wings come in hot on the tail of a 3 game winning streak, and between two Top 5 scoring offenses, expect plenty of goals worthy of taking the over wager on total points. With another solid day of betting on sports in the bag, now all that’s left is the watching and waiting, hoping for another positive outcome at one of the best online sportsbooks at WagerWeb.com.
