It has been far too many six day work weeks and overtime hours up until this point. With the first vacation in what seems to be a very long and overdue time, I am happy to say that I’m back in the great Pacific Northwest, and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Los Angeles. Coming home and flying over Safeco Field in Seattle was a great welcome home, not to mention the clutch 2-1 victory the Seattle Mariners had over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, which secured both an eight game winning streak for the M’s and a nice little pay-off in my online sports betting account at Sportsbook.com. As talked about yesterday, there was a small handful of rookie pitchers on the mound on Sunday, and among those Jeremy Bonderman and Tim Linecum did especially well to prove my point about exciting young talent in Major League Baseball. Bonderman went eight innings of shutout ball, giving up only six hits on the evening. His performance was equally matched by Scott Baker, another youngster who worked eight innings of three hit ball and gave up only one run on a solo shot by Marcus Thames with two out in the eighth inning. Getting the 1-0 win, Bonderman improves to 9-1 on the year, making him a prime candidate for this year’s All-Star game in San Francisco.
Speaking of San Francisco and rookie Tim Linecum, all that can be said is: wow. I knew that this young kid was good, hence the previous update’s raves about him, but this young pitcher played right into my write-up, making me actually look like I know what I’m talking about! Going 7 innings of shutout ball, Linecum struck out 12 batters while the Giants just obliterated the Arizona Diamondbacks 13-0 in a rare display of bay area power sorely missed by their fans. I’ll gladly scoop up the winnings in these three games, as for once I get to look like a bit of a professional sports writer, instead of an amateur hobbyist just out for a bit of fun and some wagering money. With such a good showing, I’m almost reluctant to give up anymore information on the upcoming games for today, seeing as though I don’t think it can get any better than the sports betting experienced on Sunday evening.
