A few pieces of history took place on Thursday in Major League Baseball, as both Frank Thomas of the Toronto Blue Jays, and Craig Biggio of the Houston Astros both looked to set themselves in the record books. In Toronto, the Big Hurt notched home run number 500 on a three run shot to deep left field. Unfortunately for him, this wasn’t enough to put Toronto in the lead for good, as the Minnesota Twins prevailed 8-5 in the end. However on the other side of the record breaking night, it was all smiles in Houston as Craig Biggio racked up hit number 3,000, going 5-6 in front of an ecstatic Astros fan base, who was also treated to a walk off grand slam in the 11th inning by Carlos Lee. The Astros may not be having a great year, but a night like this is always appreciated, even if you’re team is almost 15 games under .500. Luckily for me, my online sports betting for Thursday night lay elsewhere, as I would have probably wagered against Houston in this contest.
For my online sports betting, I chose to go with a few individual bets on Major League baseball, as my recent unlucky streak with parlay betting has dictated a change in wagering technique for a while. There was one great game that I was most interested in wagering on this evening; namely the contest with the return of Randy Johnson to the mound up against the L.A. Dodgers in the third game of the series. Figuring that Johnson would be a little rusty coming off of the DL as well as having Randy Wolf up against him for the Dodgers, my sportsbook money at Intertops.com (<a href=”http://www.casinoreview.org/sports_betting/intertops.html”>read the review of Intertops</a>) went on the Dodgers to win down in the desert. As predicted, Randy Johnson’s outing was a little rocky, as Los Angeles dinged him for 4 runs in only 3 innings of work, and later going on to tally up 9 runs in a 9-5 victory for the Dodgers. This also teeters the standings once again in the NL west, which is now seeming to have a different team on top of the standings every night of the week. I would rarely say in late June that a playoff race has already begun, but between the Dodgers, Padres and Diamondbacks, this whole season is going to be one long back-and-forth ride to the finish. Lucky enough for me, the majority of the games played by these teams are right around my own backyard, and I can hardly wait for my next trip to the ballpark.
