NCAA, NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey makes for solid mid-week …

As the middle of the week approaches and anticipation for the resumption of the 2011 NCAA College Basketball tournament builds even larger ahead of tomorrow’s scheduled games, the action for betting on sports at one of the best online sportsbooks reviewed here on our site is almost palpable, and the once-annual chance to wager on the most exciting sports tournament in the world should have you drooling at the chance to get your bets down before the games start tomorrow evening. Featuring action between UConn and San Diego State and Duke vs. Arizona out in the West, as well as BYU and Florida clashing in a rematch from last BYU and Florida clashing in a rematch from last year’s tournament as well as last year’s runner-up Butler taking on Wisconsin, a nice variety of match-ups will make for a great day of tournament excitement and likely even more surprises that have once again been indicative of the college hoops finale each and every year. Speaking of variety, today’s top sports betting website we’re placing wagers on is the sportsbook (read the review of, one of the most diverse, well-established, and wide-ranging betting platforms we’ve ever reviewed. Whether it be traditional wagers, proposition bets, or any number of the wildest and wackiest betting set-ups you can imagine, you will be able to find it across this simple, if comically archaic betting website.

As we’ve drawn the line in the stand for the straight up wagers for the Sweet 16 games ahead, today we’ll look to add in a few parlay wagers to spice up the mix for sportsbook betting on NCAA Basketball, though not altering any positions on the eventual winners spotted yesterday. Taking a wager on San Diego State to win with the +1, BYU to cover the +3 and Arizona to cover the +8.5 points, we’ll throw some modest cash at the underdogs slated for tomorrow, two of which we’re backing for a win outright (SDSU and BYU). With Friday’s games coming online for additional wagers, you’ll also have first dibs on the fresh lines posted today at, including the match-ups featuring Kentucky vs. Ohio State, Richmond vs. Kansas, VCU vs. Florida State and Marquette vs. North Carolina. We’ll break down the action in these games in depth tomorrow, however, initial looks on the betting lines spot potentials for an over/under breakout at 140 between Kentucky and Ohio State, Richmond to continue to live up to expectations and keep their game with Kansas within 10.5 points, and VCU to continue its Cinderella run by beating Florida State and covering the 3.5 points as underdogs. Make sure to check out tomorrow’s Sweet 16 match-ups available for betting on sports at Intertops Sportsbook, as well as a peek at Friday’s games as well, as these wagers won’t be around again for another year!

Checking out action in the professional leagues taking place today, a full boat of 12 NBA games gets underway later this evening, and no doubt will make for some nice setups for online sports betting. After the crushing loss Atlanta took at the hands of Chicago last night on their own home court, the Hawks head to Philadelphia for a clash with the playoff-hopeful 76ers, who have held it down this year at home with a 22-11 record. Philadelphia seemingly started the Atlanta Hawks’ recent struggles, winning the last contest between the two by a whopping 34 points, while visiting Atlanta. Trailing by as much as 47 points, which would have been even worse had Chicago not sat their starters in the 4th quarter, Atlanta looks like a team spiraling away from confidence, and unable to contest with teams who are in the hunt for the playoffs. As such, they get a +7 underdog ranking on the Intertops Sportsbook, and Philly will no doubt be hell-bent on picking up another game as they sit only 3 1/2 games back of Atlanta for the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Without Andre Iguodala tonight, who sits with a lingering knee injury, Atlanta stands a better chance at nabbing a road win, at the Wells Fargo Center where they’ve won 4 of the last 6 contests, but the smart money should play the 76ers to win, but Atlanta to cover the +7 given as underdog.

Setting up the next match-up for NBA sportsbook bets, we’ll turn to the tangle between Boston and Memphis, with the Celtics coming off a solid 96-86 trumping of the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Monday. Though the West has had success at Boston (Celtics are 21-0 against East foes at home, only 8-6 against the West this year), Memphis faces a tough home defense and continuing to miss production from Rudy Gay, now ruled out for the year needing surgery to repair an ailing shoulder, points will be all the more difficult to come by for the Grizzlies in this match-up. In a tight game tonight, I like the under wager on 186 points, especially if Boston can shut down Memphis like they did New York on Monday, but look out for Memphis to play especially hard as they start a tough road trip that includes Chicago ahead as well, and will need this win badly to stay in the Western Conference playoff race as the 8th seed. With a handful of other key match-ups taking place tonight, the New York Knicks try to rebound from their loss to Boston on Monday as they host Orlando, though closing games has been a serious issue for the Knicks, who finished badly in the loss to the Celtics, and could be in for another rough night against the 5th ranked scoring defense in the Magic. The Knicks look primed to repeat a first half lead, but Orlando is the right call to win with the -1.5 points as they target Miami for 3rd in the East.

Checking out a pair of additional NBA games with potential for sportsbook bets, the Tim Duncan-less San Antonio Spurs will hit the road in a tough match-up against the continually improving Denver Nuggets, who no doubt have to be almost laughing about the faltering ways of New York after the Carmelo Anthony trade and the drama he’s brought to that organization. With Denver chasing Oklahoma City in the West, behind by 4 games of the 4th place Thunder, now would be a perfect time for the Nuggets to change direction on their recent woes against San Antonio, which has seen them drop 5 straight including all 3 games played this year. Continuing to play great at home though, and without Duncan in the middle to help limit Denver’s potent offensive attack, a high scoring game gives advantage to George Karl’s troops tonight, hence the -5 points given to Denver to win even with no recent precedence of doing so against the Spurs. San Antonio must be on point defensively to win this match-up tonight but with Denver needing the win more, and at home where their most confident, we’ll go with the -5 for the Nuggets to prevail. Lastly, we’ll head to bring in the match-up between Oklahoma City and Utah, where a likely blowout is in store for the subdued Jazz, who simply can’t seem to pull together 4 quarters of basketball without Deron Williams, and against an OKC squad seeking to bounce back after an embarrassing loss to Toronto on Sunday, we’ll take the Thunder to cover the lofty 10.5 points as they look for payback from a 120-99 loss to the Jazz they suffered at home at the start of the season.

Last up for betting on sports at one of the best online sports betting websites at, switch over to NHL Hockey, where a flock of 4 games features 7 of the 8 teams currently involved in the Western Conference playoff race. Though Vancouver is assured a division win, and likely will nab the #1 seed in the West, Detroit however sits only 3 points north of Pacific Division leader San Jose tonight, and will be looking to put distance between themselves and the Sharks with a win at home over the Canucks. Absences on either side will actually balance out the Canucks vs. Red Wings match-up tonight, with Vancouver missing Manny Malhotra for the season after an eye injury, but also will be without 1/2 of the Sedin twin pairing as leading scorer Daniel Sedin will miss the game for the birth of his third child. However, Detroit will be missing Johan Franzen, Pavel Datsyuk, as well as possibly Jiri Hudler and former Canuck Todd Bertuzzi for tonight’s match-up, which could help tip the balance slightly in favor of the Canucks tonight. One thing working against the Canucks is the Red Wings 17-4-3 record against Vancouver at home since the 1997-98 campaign, though this year remains an entirely different animal. Perhaps out of loyalty alone in this balanced match-up, I’ll hedge a wager on the Canucks to win this match-up, as Detroit has not played its best games at home this year and will find trouble scoring on Roberto Luongo and the Vancouver defense. Check out other key match-up tonight as the outside-sitting Calgary Flames head to San Jose in a must-win situation for the Flames, who sit on even ground with both Dallas and Anaheim at 85 points, with the latter two teams matching up tonight as well. With Chicago in action at home against Florida and sitting on 86 points, they’ll need to pick up a win to avoid getting bumped to 9th should Calgary win on the road at San Jose. It’s a huge day for NHL Hockey, and a great day for online sports betting in general, so check out the wide range of sportsbook betting options at right now, and get ready for more great sports action tonight and for the days to come!
