After an exciting conclusion to the late NBA, NHL and NFL football games last night, Friday’s online sports betting options continue in the same exciting trend, with the full opening of the NCAA Men’s Basketball season, chalk full with 134 games on tap for betting on sports at one of the top sportsbooks reviewed here. Complete with betting options for the NBA and NHL games in store for this evening, and also the huge amount of NCAA football on tap for tomorrow, it’s one of the best times of the year for getting into the sports betting action, and setting up some wagers either for today’s action, the games taking place tomorrow, or even a bit of both. Getting stoked up for another great season of sports to hit the online sports betting scene, we’ll focus on some of the top games for College Hoops today, and add in some wagers on tonight’s games, along with the upcoming action in Week 11 of College Football. For betting on sports today, we’re visiting one of the finest and best online sportsbooks in the business, at the Bodog Sportsbook (read the review of Bodog Sportsbook). With a well-established history of being a solid, safe and secure way to wager online, as well as getting plenty of backing from major sports portals such as ESPN (which host Bodog’s odds on many of the world’s games each day), count on the Bodog sportsbook to be one of the best ways to get into sports betting today.
Dropping into the sea of wagering options for the NCAA Hoops opening day, as expected there are plenty of lopsided picks to be made, perfect for lumping into a couple of parlay wagers. With most of the Top 25 at home facing serious underdogs, most of the action lies with the point spread, as few sportsbooks will be taking bets on the moneyline or total points today for games with big-name teams involved, if taking any wagers at all. Therefore, taking what can be gathered up at the Bodog sportsbook, I’ll start with #11 Florida vs. UNC-Wilmington, being the biggest match-up available for sportsbook bets on NCAA Hoops today. Bodog posts the spread at 25 points, and with Florida looking to return most of their key starters, and strong chance to go deep in the NCAA tournament this year, they’ll need to start strong at home, and beat the spread today. In the second pick of the day, take a look at Jim Boeheim’s Syracuse team, ranked #15 to start the season, taking on last season’s cinderella story in Northern Iowa. UNI gets a little more respect on the spread today, with Syracuse favored by 10.5 points at Bodog. However, missing the stars that got Northern Iowa to the final, replaced with a bench full of true or red-shirt freshmen (8 in total), even one of the top-ranked defenses of last year may have a tough time stopping the frenetic offense of the Orangemen. Once again in this game taking the ranked team with the spread should prevail as the right pick today. With no spread posted on Georgetown and Old Dominion, with the Hoyas traveling in their first game, and with Old Dominion finishing 13-0 at home last year, it’s an uphill battle for the 20th-ranked Hoyas tonight, and with four returning starters for the Monarchs on the opposite side, I’ll pick Old D to come through with my final NCAA hoops bet of the day. With so much on tap today, regardless of whether there is little data to go on for betting on basketball, tonight’s match-ups will be a fun introduction to the wild and crazy world for NCAA basketball this season.
Moving into the bets for the NBA tonight, the game to watch is with the Utah Jazz and the Atlanta Hawks, as the Jazz come off an impressive road trip including two come-from-behind wins in South Florida against the Heat and Magic, while the Hawks look to rebound at stop the bleeding from their three straight losses after starting 6-0. It’s a scary pick taking Utah, especially as they’ve come from behind by as much as 21 points in the last week to win, however the Jazz are playing great team basketball, and know how to close a game out better than anyone at this point, something that has eluded the Hawks as of late. Utah with the 3 points given tonight. Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets head to Indiana, home of one of the most impressive shooting performances this year, happening just last game (in a 144-113 rout of the Denver Nuggets). With Yao out with an ankle injury, and with Houston scoring plenty but not stopping the scoring on the other end (2nd in points scored, 30th in points allowed), look for big points tonight, enough to clip the 215 total hosted at Bodog sportsbook. It’s gonna be a shoot-out! In further picks, I like Orlando to keep points low at home against Toronto, even in light of their meltdown against Utah in the last home game. They are keeping opponents under 100 points in all games at home (other than the Jazz game, which still only mustered 104), and only score 99 points on average in all games themselves. Look to the Magic to reign in the Raptors shooting, and keep them in the 80′s tonight. In other match-ups, look for Oklahoma City to take advantage of a banged-up Portland offense (Brandon Roy will likely see limited minutes), the Washington Wizards at home over Charlotte, tons of points in the Phoenix vs. Sacramento game, and the Clippers at home to knock down the Pistons in a battle of the league’s worst.
With the last wagering options of the day on NHL Hockey, check into the six games posted at the Bodog sportsbook, and look for a couple of key match-ups worth placing a wager on. I continue to ride the Tampa Bay Lightning and their hot offensive lineup, who look to be another team to come into Pittsburgh and push the Penguins around. The Dallas Stars look to bounce back on their road trip to Southern California after losing to Los Angeles last night, heading to Anaheim in a good match-up with the Ducks. Calgary continues to try and pull out of its recent funk, heading to Phoenix to meet Ilya Bryzgalov and the Coyotes, who themselves just ended a three-game losing streak with a win at Chicago Wednesday. With Jerome Iginla held scoreless in five games, and seven games against the Coyotes, I’ll take Calgary to get their scoring line going in this one, and come out victorious on the road. Rounding out action for the NHL, the New Jersey Devils are simply the better team against the visiting Edmonton Oilers (even if their record wouldn’t denote it), and the Blue Jackets are looking solid coming off a rout of the St. Louis Blues, and close out their home stand with the incoming Colorado Avalanche. If Mathieu Garon is set in goal tonight, look for the Blue Jacket to chip away at their dismal 7-28-1 all-time record against the Avs. With tons of options for online sports betting tonight at Bodog sportsbook, check out all your choices, make sure to pull in as much research on the match-ups, and place your bets for the exciting games starting later tonight. Until next time, have a great weekend, thanks for stopping by for reviews and updates on the best sports betting sites on the web, and we hope to see you again soon!
