Thursday Night NCAA Football: Arizona at #9 Oklahoma State

The #9-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys welcome the Arizona Wildcats to Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma for a rematch of last year’s Alamo Bowl. The Wildcats will be looking for redemption after getting thoroughly handled 36-10 in that bowl game against the Cowboys, but will face an uphill battle against last year’s third ranked offense led still by senior quarterback Brandon Weeden and his outstanding junior wide receiver Justin Blackmon. With youth all around the Wildcats ranks, will they have what it takes to stand up to one of the most prolific offenses in college football, or will Arizona end up heading to the locker rooms with heads down to the sound of 60,000 yelling OSU fans?

Offense is the name of the game tonight, and without a doubt this Thursday night ESPN College Football match-up will have plenty of it on both sides of the ball. In the opening week, these two teams combined for over 1,100 yards of total offense, with Arizona QB Nick Foles going for 412 yards passing with 5 TDs and OSU QB Brandon Weeden throwing for 388 yards and 3 TDs. Justin Blackmon, the 2010 Biletnikoff award winner (for NCAA Football’s best receiver), continued his trend of outstanding performances in Week 1, catching 8 passes for 144 yards to extend his NCAA record streak to 13 straight 100+ yard games. One area that Blackmon will certainly be looking to improve upon is to get on the board with a touchdown or two against what will likely be double team coverage from an inexperienced Wildcat secondary. On the other side of the receiving game watch out for Nick Foles’ favorite target Juron Criner, who led the Pac-10 last year with 1,223 yards receiving, and started out his senior year last week with an impressive 6 catch, 151 yard, 1 TD performance.

Betting lines for Arizona vs. #9 Oklahoma State:

The deck is stacked heavily against the Wildcats tonight, with Intertops.eu Sportsbook offering a 14 point spread going to the OSU Cowboys at -110 odds. While Arizona definitely has offensive ability this season, their questionable defense, offensive line, and past performances on the road against ranked teams holds down their odds to win, giving them +410 underdog odds on the money line, while OSU is a major -550 favorite to win tonight at home. Noting that Arizona has lost 12 straight road games to Top-10 teams by an average of 18.5 points over the past two decades certainly should have any underdog pickers thinking twice before taking a chance on the Wildcats to prevail in Stillwater tonight.

Our Pick to Win:

Oklahoma State is an offensive juggernaut, plain and simple. Though it’s fully expected that Arizona displays some quality offensive play tonight with Nick Foles at the helm, this game is geared towards a fast-paced style of play fitting OSU, and the firepower of the Cowboys will remain unmatched in this game much as it did in the Alamo Bowl last year. I’m looking for a high scoring game to challenge but not quite break through the 66 points allotted for the over/under at Intertops Sportsbook, and as such predict a final score of 42-21 in favor of OSU.

With two great pairs of quarterbacks and receivers, tonight’s match-up between the #9 Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Arizona Wildcats will certainly be a great contest to watch and wager on, and there’s no doubt that you should head on down to one of the top online sportsbooks reviewed here to place your wagers before game time. Expect tons of offense, quick drives on both sides of the ball, and lots of scoring to give you plenty of incentive to tune into this Thursday night edition of NCAA College Football!
