For all the folks residing stateside today, the return to work after the 4th of July holiday is certainly an unwelcome sight to be seen, however at least some level of consolation is to be had in the fact that for Thursday there’s even more great options for online sports betting on some solid Major League Baseball series in play today! Getting right down to business for the 12 contests taking place throughout the league, we’re venturing to the top sportsbook reviewed here at CR found at Bovada sportsbook. One of our favorite places to drop wagers on a weekly basis, count on Bovada to have easy access to great betting lines every day, and to have one of the best customer service groups around in which to do your business with.
Starting off with a look to the games spread out across the American League today, once again we’re focused on the Texas Rangers vs. Chicago White Sox series, with the home team Sox looking to snatch a rare sweep of the Rangers, sending them to a 4-game losing skid in the process. They’ll face a tough battle with the Rangers’ Matt Harrison (11-3, 3.16 ERA) on the mound today, up against another lightly tested rookie in Jose Quintanilla (3-1, 2.19 ERA). Quintanilla has been impressive as a spot starter and reliever this season, allowing just 6 runs in 43 1/3 innings over his career before meeting up with the New York Yankees last week, who tagged him for 6 runs in one game (however the Sox, via their bats, still won 14-7). This could be a great opportunity to run with Chicago today, who have shown that their bats can lead them to victory and their confidence as a team is growing, thus we’re chasing the +115 odds on Chicago as underdogs to sweep the Rangers out of town.
In other AL match-ups worth wagering on today, there’s a favorable match-up for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Cleveland Indians, as Jeremy Hellickson (4-4, 3.44 ERA) gets set to duel with Josh Tomlin (4-5, 5.85 ERA), who has been shaky lately while his ERA blooms like a wildflower. Although the Rays’ struggling offense has led them down a 3-7 run in their last 10 games, while Cleveland has won 5 out of 6 on an offensive tear, tonight’s match-up seems a fitting time for Tampa Bay to turn things around in a new series, with one of their top pitchers on the mound. Cautiously, we’ll take Tampa straight up tonight at -105 odds at Bovada to pull through with a win. In the final AL wager on the day, we’ll look to the showdown between the Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles, as the O’s take to home field at Camden Yards looking for a third straight victory, meanwhile the Angels, who have been red-hot on the road lately, try to stop their current losing streak at just two games. LA should be in a favorable position to pull off a victory facing Jake Arrieta tonight (3-9, 5.81 ERA), who continues to struggle with consistency, but the Angels’ bats will likely have to catch fire to support rookie pitcher Garrett Richards, who was simply shelled in his last outing allowing 10 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits with 4 walks. Control has been an issue for the rookie, who has given up 4 or more walks in his last 3 outings, so with two struggling pitchers facing off, the over wager on 8 ½ runs seems the safest play here at -120 odds.
Changing gears over to the top match-ups in the National League today, the biggest pitching duel lies with the Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets series, which wraps up with Cole Hamels (10-4, 3.08 ERA) taking on R.A. Dickey (12-1, 2.15 ERA). New York’s R.A. Dickey has by far been the most dominating pitcher in the major leagues in the first half of the season, and despite finally struggling against the Yankees 2 starts ago, looks to be right back on track coming of an 8-inning shutout performance against the Dodgers last Friday. Cole Hamels on the other hand has been his usual consistent self, giving the Phillies an opportunity to win in every game he’s pitched, but Dickey is something else this season, looking to extend his unbeaten streak to 11-0 dating to April 18th. His knuckleball has been quite simply devastating, evidenced by the fact that he is among the league leaders in strikeouts with 116, and has 5 wins in 6 outings in June striking out more than a batter per inning. His simply otherworldly stats has us licking chops to take him with a win, as he could grab a piece of history as the first Mets pitcher to win 13 games before the All-Star break in the last 2 decades. The runs are going to be very hard to come by tonight either way, so again we look to the over/under standing at 7 tonight and will take our chances with the under side.
Wrapping up the top options for betting on sports today, make sure to catch some other NL match-ups including the Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks, which should favor the Dbacks as the Dodgers continue to struggle with injuries and anemic offensive production, check out the St. Louis Cardinals at home with a favorable showdown against the Colorado Rockies as Lance Lynn takes the mound at home, and in another great pitching duel, spot San Francisco’s Matt Cain up against Washington’s Ross Detwiler, in what should be a great showdown in the nation’s capital tonight. Make sure to check all the betting lines across all 12 games in action for Thursday, and come out a winner with the best wagers at Bovada sportsbook!
