UFC action once again hits the octagon on August, 14th, as UFC on Versus 5 from Milwaukee, Wisconsin will give sports betting fans yet another opportunity to cash in on the excitement of MMA fighting with some solid match-ups set for Sunday night.
A showcase is set to take place in the lightweight division between Jim Miller and Ben Henderson, and if Miller can earn a victory he’s guaranteed his stake in the UFC Lightweight Title shot against the winner of the Gray Maynard vs. Frankie Edgar bout (set for October 8th during UFC 136).
Miller looks to be a solid bet coming in at a -150 favorite. His impressive record of seven straight wins and an accumulated 20-2 mark over his career shows he’s strong enough to beat just about any competition out there. Perhaps though, in a bit of irony, Miller’s only two losses of his career come at the hands of Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar, one of whom he’d be meeting should he prevail against Henderson Sunday night.
However, Henderson should certainly not be completely overlooked at a +130 underdgo, especially considering many analysts are picking him in an upset victory against Miller, citing that the former WEC lightweight champion is one of the most talented lightweight fighters in competition. Apparently that comes with overlooking the pounding Henderson took at the hands of Anthony Pettis at WEC 53, though we must admit his dominance over submission master Mark Bocek did much to repair his image and prove that he can stand toe-to-toe with Jim Miller.
Headlining UFC on Versus 5 however will be a match-up between Chris Lytle and Dan Hardy, with both fighters getting -115 odds on the money line at Betonline.com, and both fighters looking to get back into the win column. While this main card battle may not actually be the best fight of the night in the fans eyes, it should make for a scrappy bout between two veterans of the octagon.
Hardy comes in with more to prove than Lytle however, after having lost 3 consecutive fights, being owned by Georges St-Pierre in a welterweight title shot, beaten soundly by Anthony Johnson at UFC Fight Night 24, and getting knocked out by Carlos Condit. Hardy hasn’t won a single round of fighting in those three losses, so he’ll definitely have his hands full to do better against Lytle.
Lytle on the other hand won four straight fights before getting beaten by Brian Ebersole, in a fight that changed course with one strong connection from an Ebersole knee. What Lytle really does lack however is finishing capability; he’s only had one KO or TKO in 17 UFC matches, and only 3 in his 53-fight career. However, he’s definitely the better wrestler in this fight against Hardy, so unless Hardy and his flaming-red Mohawk can swiftly usher a knock-out blow, count on Lytle to be a good bet to pick up the win in the main card for UFC on Versus 5.
Other fights to look forward to, and ones that should be worth a look over the betting lines at BetOnline.com or any of the other top sports betting websites reviewed here, consist of a great match-up between two solid competitors as Donald Cerrone takes on Charles Oliveira in what should be a battle for a future contender spot, and a technical bout between Duane Ludwig and Amir Sadollah with Ludwig a +255 underdog. Make sure to check out the betting lines for this exciting action set for Sunday in Milwaukee as UFC on Versus 5 will no doubt feature a handful of top competitors vying for either redemption or a shot at a future title.
