Updated Futures for 2014 World Series

Major League Baseball continues towards the long hot days of summer where divisions have been won and lost. This week odds makers at Bovada and topbet released updated odds on the 2014 World Series.

The American League Central race has remained tight thanks to the Cleveland Indians and the club has moved up the list for the World Series thanks to nice play on the field.

The Indians are playing very well and putting a great deal of pressure on the division favorite the Detroit Tigers.

The Tribe has won 9 of its past 10 games overall and is just 2 games behind the Tigers in the AL Central. That fine play has cut the odds the Indians have of winning the World Series from 50 to 1 last week to this week’s 30 to 1.

Cleveland is getting breakout seasons from Lonnie Chisenhall who is batting .365 with 4 home runs and 23 RBIs and Michael Brantley who is batting .298 with 9 home runs and 42 RBIs.

The Indians offense is in the top 10 in on-base percentage and runs scored, even though stars such as Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana have not found their hitting groove.

Corey Kluber is capable of being a dominating pitcher as he has a current strikeout rate of 10.32. Justin Masterson the team’s ace is averaging 8 Ks per 9 innings while Trevor Bauer is averaging nearly 11 Ks per 9 innings giving the Tribe an excellent pitching staff to complement a strong offense.

When Cleveland started the season slow, all eyes focused on the Tigers and how easy it was going to be to win another AL Central title.

However, the Tigers are now struggling as their high priced closer Joe Nathan is not shutting down opponents and that had left the back door open and the Indians are starting to walk through it.

With its solid offense that to date has not played up to most expectations, and a pitching staff that is highly underrated, Cleveland appears to have what it takes to challenge the Tigers for the AL Central title.

Even if an AL Central title is not within reach, the Indians should be considered a strong contender for one of the wildcard spots in the American League.

In the National League, the San Francisco Giants are on a role. San Francisco has moved up into a tie with the Oakland Athletics as the co-favorites at 5 to 1 to win the 2014 World Series at betonline and sportsbook .com.

The Giants are 42-22 and lead the second place Los Angeles Dodgers by 8 ½ games in the NL West.

With the Giants and A’s as favorites to win the World Series, thought returns to the World Series of 1989 when the two met and Oakland swept the Giants in four games. That year the series was delayed 10 days by an earthquake in California.
