Almost every NBA team will be in action on today with a 13-game slate on tap, so we’ve made things easy by selecting the best five games to bet for Wednesday. Here they are!
Memphis Grizzlies -2 at Atlanta Hawks +2
The Grizzlies are still a two-point favorite without Rudy Gay – who they just traded to Toronto – and even on the road, where they are just 12-9 this year. The Grizzlies are still playing fairly well without their leading scorer and the Hawks have struggled a bit lately, winning just five of their last 10, but the Hawks are a much better team at home and should match up better against a Rudy Gay-less Grizzlies squad. Look for the Hawks to get the win tonight and cover +2 in the process.
Houston Rockets +8 at Miami Heat -8
The reigning NBA champions will always be the favorite on their home floor, but after the offensive explosion that the Rockets had last night, it may be hard to bet against them.
The Rockets dropped 140 points on the Golden State Warriors last night, hitting 23 three-point shots, which tied an NBA record. Of course, the Warriors are not a great defensive team, but you still have to give some props to the scoring barrage.
This spread presents a great opportunity to beat against the Heat, which you normally don’t want to do. They are getting eight points against one of the best scoring teams in the league, so I like Houston here to cover +8 even in a close loss.
Brooklyn Nets +1.5 at Detroit Pistons -1.5
The Pistons might be playing marginally better recently, but they’ve still dropped six of their last 10 and are only a .500 team at home this year. Brooklyn has struggled mightily on the road this year, but the Nets have found new life under interim coach P.J. Carlesimo and have positioned themselves near the top of the Eastern Conference standings over the last few weeks. This seems like a pretty easy call. Take advantage of the fact that the Nets are the underdog and take them to win, covering +1.5 on the road today.
Golden State Warriors +10 at Oklahoma City Thunder -10
Unfortunately for the Warriors, they were the wrong end of the 140 drubbing last night, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are one of the best young squads out West and you better believe they’ll be looking to take their frustration out on the next team they face, which happens to be the Thunder.
The Thunder and Warriors have split the two meetings between them earlier this season, so Golden State knows it can get the job done, even against one of the NBA’s best teams. And that should be evidence enough to like the Warriors to cover such a massive spread as 10 points. We love the Thunder, but this spread is too juicy to pass up and the Warriors are too good to get crushed two nights in a row.
Milwaukee Bucks +5 at Utah Jazz -5
This match-up features two mediocre teams, but one of them turns into an unstoppable force when they are at home and that team is the Utah Jazz.
The Jazz are 18-5 on their home floor this year and up against a flawed team like the Bucks, that confidence playing in front of the home crowd should serve them well. Look for Utah to stymie Milwaukee and pick up a win, covering -5.
